Wishing Rajnikant and remembering Smita Patil

We extend our warmest wishes to Thanga Thalaivar Rajnikant. The actor turns 54 on 12th of Dec. Rajni started life as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad and like Johnny Walker worked as a bus conductor before his style and mannerisms attracted the attention of a guy from tinsel town. Rajnikant has over 149 films that include 25 films in Hindi. Although he has aged now, his superstar status remains and any film he touches turns into a surefire hit.

Rajnikant has the largest number of fan clubs in the world and is an icon even in far away Japan. His fans are planning to celebrate his birthday with great pomp. Those with access to Raj TV can access that channel to capture interesting programs on Rajni. Follow this link (http://www.rajinifans.com/detailView.asp?title=91) for more news on Rajni’s birthday. Tomorrow is 13th December and it will be 20 years to the day that Smita Patil left this world abruptly. Smita was married to Raj Babbar and died due to complications in childbirth. Smita was a dusky looker and her eyes could smoulder their way through the screen into the viewer’s hearts.

Smita was a trailblazer, an actress on caliber who could straddle the worlds of both commercial and art cinema. She excelled in films like Manthan, Nishant, and Arth which are now considered art house classics. At the same time she delivered powerhouse performances with Amitabh Bachchan in mainstream cinema in films like Namak Halal and Shakti. Two of the best songs of the eighties “Hum ne sanam ko khat likha” and “Aaj rapat jaye” were filmed on Smita. Smita’s healthy rivalry with Shabana Azmi would have surely added many more chapters to our film industry had it continued.
