What attracts NRIs to Bollywood?

Neelam, Upen Patel, Geeta Basra, Katrina Kaif, Jiah Khan…….the list goes on for the number of actors born and brought up abroad, but trying their hand at Bollywood. What attracts them to Bollywood? Everyone has a different answer.

“You don’t get to dance in Hollywood or British films. I have a passion for dancing. So, our films are definitely better,” says Geeta Basra. Upen Patel feels that he would not have got so much of recognition and acceptance anywhere else.

The first problem which these NRIs face is the language problem, but all of them are confident that they can definitely overcome it. Madhur Bhandarkar says, “Language should not be a hurdle to prevent them from entering Bollywood. If a person has talent and acting skills, the movie can also be dubbed in someone else’s voice”.

Whatever be the case, it is very evident that Bollywood is a strong attraction for NRIs and our movies are very popular abroad. It is this call that makes these actors face all the struggles, emotional crisis, adjustment to a new country and language barriers.
