The music of J P Dutta’s much awaited film Umrao Jaan was released in a star-studded ceremony in Mumbai.
The music of the movie was launched on Saturday at Mumbai’s Grand Hyatt. With the exception of Abhishek Bachchan , the movie’s actors, Aishwarya Rai , Shabana Azmi , Divya Dutta , Bikram Saluja and Puru Rajkumar were at the launch. However, Abhishek was not really missed as his dad Amitabh Bachchan more than made up for Abhi’s absence.
The film’s music was released by singer Lata Mageshkar and Manmohan Shetty.
Music composer Anu Malik and lyricist Javed Akhtar were quite joyful at the response the gathering gave to the previews of the film’s songs.
The film’s main song Salaam (shot on Aishwarya and Abhishek) is already running on the music channels.
Dressed in an elegant off-white sari, Aishwarya was the focus of attention at the music launch. Speaking to reporters, she said: “I absolutely love the music of this film.â€
Ash said it was “an honour†and “a dream come true†for her to work with J P Dutta.
Javed Akhtar said the film’s music and lyrics combine the flavour of the 19th century music with the sensibilities of the 21st century.
Anu Malik said composing the music “has been a tough challenge†for him.
‘Umrao Jaan’ is based on the novel by Mirza Mohammed Haadi Ruswa. It is not a remake of Muzzafar Ali’s movie from 1981.
The film is set to release on November 3.
