Shahrukh and Amitabh catch attention in Toronto

The two top actors of Bollywood left many movie buffs star-struck at the screening of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival.

It’s an honour for Karan Johar to take his latest movie to Toronto. However, at the press meet on Sunday morning before the movie’s screening, the response from the journalists was quite lukewarm. Not more than 20 journos turned up and most of them were Indians living in the west.

Amitabh Bachchan was looking dashing in a leather jacket, while Shah Rukh Khan was dapperly dressed in a black coat and light-colored trousers. Karan Johar was informally dressed in a brown jacket and jeans.

Speaking about the movie, Karan said he felt that KANK has “opened a Pandora’s box” as people have begun discussing and debating the issues of adultery and extra-marital affair irrespective of whether they liked the film or not.

Speaking about Bollywood in general, Shah Rukh Khan said: “It isn’t enough to merely take a particular film to a global audience. It is important to explain to the market why Bollywood films continue to thrive despite competition from Hollywood.”

The tepid response at the press brief was forgotten when Amitabh, SRK and Karan were met with squeals and cheers of adulation from the fans outside the Roy Thompson Hall where the film was screened in the ‘Gala Presentation’ section of the festival.

Following the film’s screening, SRK, Big B and Karan were invited on the stage for a talk hosted by Suketu Mehta.

Mehta is the author of the award-winning book, Maximum City.

‘KANK’ was re-screened at the festival on September 11 also.
