Priyadarshan turns down sequel offer

While most filmmakers in Bollywood are scampering to cash in on the sequel craze, Priyadarshan for one who is has taken an anti-sequel stance. According to reports, Priyadarshan has turned down the offer to make a sequel to his sleeper hit Malamaal Weekly. He had earlier rejected a sequel to his blockbuster Hera Phir.

His writer Neeraj Vohra was then roped in and the sequel Phir Hera Pheri made a killing at the box office recently. The reason he does not do sequels in that he believes that no one can make a film better than the original and prefers not to tamper with the original. Priyan is currently shooting Govinda – Akshay Kumar starrer Bhagam Bhaag and is looking forward to a serious project Kanchivaram that rolls in October.

Kanchivaram will be produced by Percept. Set in per-Independence era, the film showcases the growth of communism in India with the backdrop of textile workers’ struggle. Here is one man of principles who is sticking to his guns.
