Gay but not happy in Bollywood

The wheels have come a full-circle in Bollywood. Earlier it was the girls who were propositioned by lecherous producers and if tales are to be believed many top-rung heroines got their first break after spending some time on the casting couch.

But all that seems passé now. It’s the guys who are now facing the heat. There seems to be a lobby of powerful producers, designers, and directors whose sexual orientation is not straight. According to the grapevine, it is these guys who are literally becoming a pain in the backside for aspiring and established artists. Apart from the grapevine, even established film columnists like Bharati Pradhan have admitted that guys too have to be on the couch. Ouch! Two big names that come to mind when talking of such solicitation are Shah Rukh Khan and Rahul Roy.

There has been much speculation on who these powerful guys are – conjecture includes names like Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra, and Viveick Vaswani. It is said that even Shah Rukh Khan had to oblige a producer before his first break in “Fauji”. That was just a crummy TV serial. Think of what the cute-looking newcomers must be facing for a role in films where the stakes are so high.

Shah Rukh attracted further attention regarding his orientation when he did the Lux ad, appearing in a bathtub strewn with rose petals. We, at bollywoodenertainment.com.au feel that there should not be so much pressure on stars and instead of speculating we can make better use of our time or the next thing we know we will be talking about the closet lesbians in the film industry.
