Diwali, the festival of light, enlightenment and victory of good over evil has unique place among milieu and populace in India and is the biggest festival in India.For Bollywood, Diwali has special significance as this is the period of the year when one of the most awaited and biggest movies of the year are released not only in Bollywood but also in south too. The most awaited releases of this Diwali are Leela Bhanasali’s Saawariya and Farah Khan directed Om Shanti Om.
The Saawariya is sensitive romantic movie based on Fydor Dostoevsky’s short story. Picture is scheduled to be released on Diwali November 9th 2007. In the leading cast of the movie are debutantes Ranbir Kapoor (Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh’s Son) and Sonam Kapoor (Anil Kapoor’s Daughter). The other Diwali Surprise is Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starred Om Shanti Om which is thriller based on the story of incarnation.
However, Diwali was celebrated in its style at Andheri Sport Complex during Mumbai Police’s function on November 6th 2007, where most of the Bollywood stars were present. But among the presented gentry like like Priyanka Chopra, Esha Doel, Shahrukh Khan, Urmila Matondkar, Meghna Naidu, Nisha Kothari, Saif Ali Khan and many other it was the presence of Bachchan Family and specially newly wedded couple were the centre of attraction. The function was full of performances by celebrity stars.
