The Indian Television Star Gold Lux Sabsey Favourite Kaun Awards is the only Bollywood awards decided by the audience. The red carpet ceremony for ‘Lux Sabse Favorite Kaun 2010’ was jazzed up by the B-Town celebrities with their style and panache. The guest list included the likes of Akshay Kumar, Bipasha Basu, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Farhan Akhtar, Farah Khan, Arshad Warsi, Dia Mirza, Mugdha Godse, and other television actors.

Akshay Kumar, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Ritesh Deshmukh, Shruti Haasan, Prachi Desai and Mugdha Godse performed for the awards night and were also honored for their work.

The winners for ‘Lux Sabse Favorite Kaun 2010’ awards have been selected through a voting campaign spanning across 30 cities along with multiple brand activation and a multitude of voting techniques like the SFK Websites, SMS, among others. The show got a overwhelming response with a collection of over 1.7 crore votes from across the world.

The best part of the night was the wrapping up of it marked by an electrifying performance by Khiladi Kumar who hip-hopped to the hit track ‘Paisa Paisa’ from ‘De Dana Dan’ and later on the remix from ‘Blue’.

Reports have it that Bebo felt dizzy on the sets of Rohit Shetty’s comedy ‘Golmaal Returns’ where the climax of the film was being shot in Goa this Friday. Rohit Shetty reported that Kareena was “sick and giddy” when she came on the sets and had to be given “fresh juices” before she felt fit enough to shoot her scenes.

Kareena, however, is defensive about her newly acquired super-slim figure and blames her illness on some knee injury. She stresses that she is “healthy”, “fit” and “on top of the world”.

After all the guessing, denying and shying, it is wedding bells at last for the Sanjay- Manyata pair. The couple was married at a ceremony that took place at Taj Exotica on February 7, 2008. The Hindu rituals took place at Verosva in Andheri. The marriage was attended by Sanjay Dutt`s close friends- Suniel Shetty, Nitin Manmohan, Bunty Walia.Sanjay Dutt’s sister Priya Dutt expressed her surprise at the wedding and said that the she had no information about the supposed wedding and was not called for it. She told Zee News, “You can tell me about the venue and I will go there. I am happy for Sanjay. I have not been informed and asked about it. Maybe he doesn’t give it that kind of importance to mention it any further as he is seeing Manyata since a long time. Sanjay is 50 yrs old and too old to ask us for suggestions. I will just wish him all the very best.”

The couple came out for a photo-op and thanked the media, his friends and fans for the constant support. When asked what his immediate plans were, he said that he had his shooting committments, henceforth would be staying in Mumbai as of now. Dutt reportedly gifted Manyata a diamond ring worth Rs 40 lakh as a wedding gift.

Kareena Kapoor may have been ecstatic signing the three-film deal with Adlabs, but Aamir Khan does not feel the same way. The news is that Aamir Khan has turned down a three-film offer worth Rs. 60 crores from Adlabs apparently because there was no proper script in place.Money has not been the priority for the actor who is said to have charged Rs 20 crore for ‘Ghajini’. Previously Adlabs offered him Rs. 50 crores for the three film deal but when they saw that the actor was not too keen they raised the amount to Rs. 60 crore in a hope to draw his interest. However, they did not have any story, or script in hand when they met Aamir. They simply told Aamir that he would have the freedom to choose three directors of his choice and Adlabs would back those projects.

Aamir refused the offer politely telling them that he does not do film just for money and that the script was of paramount importance to him.

This is a fabulous way of celebrating Diwali. This Diwali, Amitabh Bachchan has donated a number of clothes including embroidered shirts, suits and jackets from his personal wardrobe to Oxfam, an international aid agency. The clothes will be sold in an online auction on Dec 1. They will also be exhibited in Oxfam shops for public to see.“I urge everyone to come forward and contribute very generously to this noble cause,” urges Bachchan.

Pushpanath Krishnamurthy of Oxfam said, “We can all do the same at Diwali and by buying Diwali gifts from Oxfam Unwrapped too, we can bring the light of hope to even more people.”

After a brief hiatus and a short trip to the jail, Salman Khan is back in action. This time he is once again baring his chest for a movie titled “Tarzan” where he gets to play the title role! In fact he might even be seen sans his trousers if his role so demands.With his well crafted muscles, toned body and a shaven chest, it seems that Salman won’t have much problems getting into the skin of the character of “Tarzan”. Bollywood’s promising actor, Kunal Kapoor, is happy with his first on-screen lip-lock which he shared with Konkona Sen Sharma in ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’. The movie was also Kunal’s first family drama and he shares screen space with Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan in the film.“My first on-screen kiss, Konkona and I did it well, considering we did it in below-zero temperature in Switzerland with 50 people gawking,” Kunal told IANS.

Akshay Kumar is well-known for his pranks on the sets. So, it is no wonder that Vidya Balan and Amisha Patel fell prey to him on the sets of comedy-horror film “Bhool Bhulaiya” in Jaipur.It so happened that one day Akshay arrived on the sets with a man carrying a handycam. The man used to shoot Akshay all the time and talked a lot to him. This went on for about 4-5 days. Finally, Akshay introduced the man to his co stars as a reporter with a reputed television channel and requested that the leading ladies give him interviews. Vidya and Amisha promptly obliged and gave a warm interview giving details about the film, their roles and careers.

As soon as the interviews were over, the man went up to Akshay and the two started laughing aloud. That’s when Akshay disclosed that the man was not a reporter but his physical trainer. Next, the girls were fuming and everyone else was having a hearty laugh. The only one who didn’t fall for Akki’s prank was Shiney Ahuja, since he knew well that the man was Akshay’s physical trainer.

Now this is news guys. A very unlikely filmi pair has been spotted together. Abhay Deol and Neetu Chandra have not yet worked together in any film. Yet, they were spotted together catching up a movie recently.

Media and gossip columns, which leave no stones unturned, are linking the two together. The basic matter is that Abhay and Neetu went together to watch ‘Resident Evil: Extinction’ together.

Neetu was reportedly spotted walking in with Abhay at a theatre in Mumbai. But after entering the theatre, they separated and maintained some distance so as not to be seen together. Neetu bought the tickets while Abhay waited for her and later followed her as she entered the auditorium.

Neetu, however, refuses that anything is brewing between her and Abhay. She says she had gone to see the movie with a couple of friends when she coincidentally bumped into Abhay at the theatre.

Bengali ace director Aparna Sen plans to cast Abhishek Bachchan for her first Hindi movie ‘Gulel’. To be known that Abhishek had already given his dates for the film when late Ismail’s Merchant’ nephew Naeem was to produce it. However, the project was shelved due to the death of Ismail. Now, Sen is ready to start again as soon as Abhi gives his dates.“For ‘Gulel’, I really want Abhishek and I know Abhishek wants to do the role. He has said yes,” said Sen.

Abhishek, too, is keen on working with Aparna, “I’ve worked in two Bengali films with Rituda in ‘Antarmahal’ and in a film called ‘Desh’, directed by Raja Sen in which I played my own mom’s son. It would be delightful to work with Aparna Sen.”

Meanwhile, Aparna Sen is in the process of completing her latest Bengali film “The Japanese Wife”, which is based on Kunal Basu’s short story and stars Rahul Bose and Raima Sen. The film is about a man involved in a relationship with two women simultaneously.

He hates the term ‘Item Number’, but this a fact that Dino Morea will do a rocking dance number in a guest appearance for Jahnu Barua’s ‘Har Pal’ to be choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant.“Yeah. It is just a guest appearance. It’s my first item song and that too a really rocking number by Pritam. And I get to play a DJ,” Dino said. He further clarifies the reason for his excitement, “I hate the term ‘item song’. It reduces me to a commodity. But the track was too sizzling to resist and I’m getting to dance with two of the hottest ladies in showbiz. I mean Preity and Isha.”

Dino has quite fond memories of Preity and her friendship, “I know her from the time she first came to Mumbai. We were both new and great friends. I feel so proud to see her taking such confident strides. And she’s also become such a terrific dancer. I’m enjoying the thought of dancing with her and Isha.”

The actor is recently concentrating on his production company. He has shot an ad film with Karan Johar and Kareena Kapoor which has been directed by Tarun Mansukhani. His forthcoming releases are ‘Kabhi Bhi Kahin Bhi’ and ‘Deha’.

Akshay Kumar who carved his first niche in Bollywood as an action hero slowly got into comedy films. Now, with a long stretch of seven years, Akshay is going to enact in a complete action packed film which will also be Warner Brothers’ first Bollywood film. The film titled ‘Made in China’ will have Deepika Padukone opposite Akshay Kumar. The producers will be Ramesh and Rohan Sippy.Akshay Kumar is undergoing training in the martial art form called Wushu which has been the style largely used by Jackie Chan and Jet Lee. It is well-known that Akshay admires and adores Jackie Chan.

’Akshay has been a martial arts student for years,’ director Nikhil Advani told. ‘The Wushu style is very big in China. Jet Li and Jackie Chan constantly practice it,’ he added.

Advani said, ‘My writer Sridhar Raghavan and my Indian producer Rohan Sippy designed the film with Akshay in mind. It was either Akshay or no one else for the role. We needed a lead pair who could do the action scenes with the grace of dancers. Both Deepika and Akshay are phenomenal dancers and athletes.’

Being India’s first film to be shot in China, the shooting will start in locations like Shanghai, Beijing and a village near the Chinese capital from Jan 2008.

Salman Khan, who had been sent to prison in the Jodhpur jail for the Chinkara poaching case, was granted bail by the Jodhpur bench of Rajasthan High Court on Friday. He reached home in Mumbai later in the day.The actor was in tears when he heard the news of his bail and said, “I am very thankful to my fans who prayed for me. I am not guilty. I want to hold my head high and not hang it in shame.”

Salman had been in Jodhpur Central Jail for the past seven days after a sessions court upheld his five-year jail term in the 1998 Chinkara poaching case. The actor utilized his time in jail painting and has expressed his desire to auction all the paintings that he made in jail.

However the animal activists are not happy with the news, “Its absolutely appalling. This is not even his first conviction. The court hasn’t considered that he has four other cases against him. He has beaten co-stars, run over five people, bribed witnesses, he’s been shown on TV holding a gun in his hand. Isn’t he a menace to society?” animal Rights’ activist Menaka Gandhi said on hearing the news of the actor’s bail.

The revision petition challenging the actor’s conviction will come up for hearing in the Rajasthan High Court on October 24.

Since his career as an actor is not soaring high in Bollywood, he has decided to try his hand in production. He will produce a period film and an action movie. Finally, sigh of relief for Sanjay Dutt and exuberance prevailed through the Bollywood film industry as Supreme Court of India on Monday 20th August 2007, grated bail to the actor. He was serving imprisonment for six years after being found guilty of possessing illegal arm from the people involvement in Bomb Blasts in Mumbai in 1993 which killed 257 people. He was convicted in a Judgment of Maharashtra high court on 31st July.
His Lawyer Karan Singh in a statement said “There is a lot of paperwork involved. He is expected to be released tomorrow.”

However film industry is excited after this news as people in the industry feel that actor has already suffered a lot for an unknowingly committing a mistake. They are hopeful; he will complete his three under produced movies.  He was in jail since 31st July and spent his days as an ordinary prisoner, there.

Kangana has often been the target of film critics for her dialogue delivery. Now the gal has decided to stand up to it. So, she has begun with her classical singing lessons to improve her dialogue delivery. She wakes up religiously at four in the morning to get ready for her riyaaz. Her guru is Amitabh Chakraborty and he arrives, dot at five in the morning. They practice for a good two hours before she leaves for shooting.Initially Amitabh was a bit hesitant to teach Kangana as he feels classical singing should be learnt either before 18 years of age or after a good 40 years, but now he seems happy with Kangana’s dedication and progress.

Kangana Ranaut is confident that classical singing will help improve her voice quality.

The versatile B-wood actor, Rahul Bose had recently got an injury while shooting for his forthcoming film, ‘Chain Kuli Ki Main Kuli’. Rahul sprained his ankle while playing rugby. But an injured Rahul doesn’t mind the injury and pain due to it and feels that all this is a part and parcel of work. He tells Delhi Times that “While playing rugby, someone fell on me! This is all part of the game. Injuries come as a package deal while shooting. I’ll rest it, and in three days I should be fine.”After the much talked about film Pyar ke Side Effects, Rahul had disappeared from the big screen because he was waiting for something worthwhile to come his way. Lately he worked in a short film named Ctrl Alt Delete. The film was a hit and was shown in many foreign film festivals. A happy and contended Rahul said “Actually, I prefer to wait than jump over any project that comes my way. And, this formula works.”

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom manages to do just that with its ensemble star cast exuding charisma and doing justice to its role. As usual the father-son jodi rocks and Akki Narula’s costumes do a great job in defining the personas of the characters. Amitabh appears part rakish and part funny in his knee-length boots and feathered hat. He carries off the costume with panache and delivers another cool performance… he carried off the dock worker’s uniform with panache as well in Deewar… all those years back.The characters are well-etched and loud and they respond to some very different-sounding names; sample these Rikki Thukral, Steven Singh, Alvira Khan, etc. The film is based on those flimsiest of premises – boy meet girl but slick production values, good humor, and fantastic locales make this a must watch.

What you think about the music of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

The music of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom is rocking its very nice. It’s the second time I am working with Shankar Ehsaan Loy. They have always been different in their sound in whichever film they have done. Jhoom Barabar Jhoom is completely different from what they have done earlier. The movie is directed by Shaad who has his own mad side to him and he gets that out in his music as well. He has his sense of humor which everyone has seen in his earlier films and because it’s a musical film the situations are handled with songs. The songs are amazing especially the title track Jhoom Barabar Jhoom which is going to rock this year. I am not saying so because it’s my film but it’s just such a great song. Even the promo brings out the energy of the film because this film is completely over the top. It is a romantic comedy and it deals with all situations and of course the music plays a very important part.

Which is your favourite track?

I think all of them are required for the situation they have been used for. All of them are great but the faster version of Jhoom was quite a killer because we were dancing to it. My favourite song is the title track of Jhoom. I think all the songs are good but more close to me is the song Kiss of Love because it’s my song.

On Vaibhavi Merchant as the choreographer.

I call Vaibahavi Chinku, that’s how I have known her right from the time she was assisting Rekhaji and Chinniji during Gupt. At that time she was a very shy girl but now she’s a completely different person but the same at heart. She’s a wonderful person and I really get along well with her. I am working with her for the third time now but this time we really worked hard for a film for all the songs. She was amazing not just giving great moments or dance steps but also getting the emotions right with the steps. That’s very important for us all especially when you are playing a character which is very different

Can you tell us a bit about your character in the film?

Usually I do get roles which are always more connected to Punjab because I am from Punjab. My character is of this guy called Steve who is half British half Punjabi. I think when I heard the script it felt like as if the character was written with me in mind because it has a lot of similarities. It made it easy but then at the same time it gets more difficult because it’s so you. You have to be slightly different in different ways but it was good fun.

What was it like working with Shaad Ali Sehgal?

He makes things so easy. He’s a cool dude he gets along with everybody. He mingles with the whole unit and I think I believe in that because I love coming to my work and not just sitting in one corner and having an attitude. I like to mingle and get to know everyone so that when you are working it’s a very friendly environment. So I think that really made us all gel together and it was fun.

What was it like shooting in London?

I shot in London and we were there for quite a few days and it was good fun. After a long time I have actually shot for a film where everybody knew what was going to happen on which day. So there were days off in the middle which was really required for anyone and everyone working. You had your own time off in London so it was good fun.

What was it like working in a multi star cast film?

I think the star cast was ruled by Aquarians because Abhishek, Preity and I are all Aquarians. So I guess they all love each other. Abhishek and I worked for the first time together and it was good fun. I have known him since he was a kid and we have always got along well. He and I started work so it was very chilled out. I call Preity Pritam Singh, she did her first film with me and we go a long way back from even before she started working. With Lara I have done quite a few films so everybody knew each other so well. So it was like really comfortable and everybody has done a great job, everybody was totally into the script and into their work.

What was your reaction when you first read the script? What made you decide to do this film?

When I read the script I felt like the role was written for me. Even Adi said that to me even before he mentioned the subject to me. I was like let me hear the script because there are so many people in the film. Then when I heard it I was like dude it’s a great role. I mean I didn’t expect to hear a great role and then I read the script and it was such a funny script, when you are reading it you start laughing. That’s what every script should be. Everybody has worked hard and it’s been written really well. When we were shooting the scenes and when we were doing the workshops everything was just falling in its place. So it’s a very well written film.

What was it like working with Aki Narula who has created the look for the film?

The look is very important because it’s a musical and music plays a very important part and there were a lot of clothes required. The character that I am playing is of this really big lawyer who’s one of the big shots there and required an Anglo British kind of feel. This is the first time I am working with Aki and he is very creative, very talented. I mean he has given us the clothes which I would love to wear but it’s like a little over the top. They were really amazing they just went so well with the characters. The clothes said what they were and that’s how it should always be. The clothes spoke and made it so comfortable for the character to come across in a right way.

What according to you was the highlight of shooting for Jhoom Barabar Jhoom?

It was more like a big picnic though we worked really hard. We shot the title track for twenty five days in a row and that was like non stop work being done. We were dancing the whole day. But the thing is because we got along so well we really enjoyed doing everything. The script and the music were so good everybody just enjoyed being on sets. And that really was one of the most unique things of doing the film.

Any memorable or unusual incident that comes to mind during the shoot of the film?

The shoot schedule was very hectic and I fell ill while I was shooting for the climax song of the film. I think the work got to me because I was working everyday and before this I was shooting for some other film. I have never ever fallen ill and had to cancel work. Luckily the last day when I was feeling the worst (health wise) I didn’t realize it and I finished the film shooting. I had one more day to go but to my luck that day the shoot got postponed for the next day for some technical reason and I got a days break and was feeling ok to work the next day.

This is your first Yash Raj film? What was the experience like?

They are such an organized company. Their production house is completely equipped and there is not a single stone left unturned to get the best .The songs were shot in London with so much emphasis on the look and the sets were so well done. Also we were very well looked after.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

The first thing that comes to my mind is madness, crazy people, over the top. It’s a moment where you are on a different planet all together. It’s about love where your emotions run wild.

Both these new comers made their debut recently with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saanwariya’ (Ranbir Kapoor) and SRK’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ (Deepika Padukone) and both of them were under contracts until the release of their debut films. “I’m happy to see I’ve been appreciated. I did it because it was challenging. I’m happy audiences understood what the film is really about. That’s contrary to how some people in the film trade saw it from the outset … not a single person has disliked it. I’ve got positive feedback from weird places,” Amitabh told IANS in an interview.

The veteran actor pointed out that “Nishabd” was shot in a remote location, away from crowds, which enabled him to perform well. He also stressed that Varma gave ample space to all his artistes.

“There were no crowds, no phones, no connection with the rest of the world. It was just us and the project. It was the silence that stimulated creativity.”

Award-winners, who might have heard a word or two from little birdies, were also present – Ayesha Takia, Shiney Ahuja, and Kangana Ranaut to name a few. Amitabh Bachchan made a grand entry with to-be bahu Aishwarya Rai, just in time to receive a star-tipped statuette on behalf of son Abhishek. The junior Bachchan bagged an award for the Best Actor in Supporting Role for his stint in Karan Johar’s KANK.

Entertaining dance acts were thrown in to keep the A-list audience alive. Bebo did a Don, inevitably followed by Yeh Mera Dil, which she had also performed with Helen at the Screen Awards. The audience swooned to Emraan Hashmi’s moves. Lara Dutta’s retro act was absolutely hot.

The much awaited and controversial ‘Nishabd’ portraying the love of a 60 year old man (Amitabh Bachchan) and an 18-year-old girl (Jiah Khan) was released last week. The box office collections are not soaring, but the fire of protest claiming the movie to be a charge on Indian culture, seems to be engulfing the nation.

Mallika Sherawat had to shoot a song at different locations in US for Kamal Hassan’s film ‘Dasavatharam’. The entire crew reached there but Mallika could not make it because her Visa had expired. So, Kamal finally had to shoot the song in Malaysia. The cost of shifting the entire crew and location to Malaysia added approx. Rs.2 crore to the budget of the already expensive film.

‘Dasavatharam’ stars Kamal Hassan and Mallika Sherwat in lead roles. Mallika plays a CIA agent in the film. Kamal has roped in Himesh Reshammiya for the musical scores of the film.

Ashmit Patel is busy shooting these days for a period film titled ‘The Flag’. The movie is being directed by Sajiv Balath, who has made several documentaries in the past.

The oscars are finally over, and all the hoo-haa about which designer is going to be dressing whom has taken a backseat. But does it really take a designer to dress up Water star, John Abraham, we wonder. He looks Fashionable and stylish in almost anything. To this, John said, “A designer had once told me, he won’t have to work that hard, given my ability to pull off anything well.” Sure John! and with your chiseled body and Antonio Banderas look (the actor was mistaken for the Spaniard at the Oscars, remember?), we’re sure your female fans, too, love it that you ‘pull off’ everything well.

The Bachchan family (sans Aishwarya) is to sizzle on screen together in Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film ‘Johnny Walker’. The film will be a joint venture between Amitabh’s AB Corps and Percept Picture Company. The movie has been written by Renzil D Silva who wrote ‘Rang De Basanti’. The director is Shoojit Sircar who has ‘Yahaan’ (with Jimmy Shergill and Minnisha Lamba) to his credit.

Rakesh Mehra’s ’Delhi-6’ is witnessing stars parading in and out of the film. First, Mehra signed Abhishek Bachchan for the lead role. Then, Hrithik Roshan replaced him. Now, Hrithik has left the film and Akshay Kumar has taken his place.

John Abraham is all set to fly to London to on February 13 to shoot for the UTV movie ‘Goal’. The film is based on the game of football and is to be directed by Vivek Agnihotri . John Abraham, Bipasha Basu and Arshad Warsi play main roles in the movie, which is to be shot entirely in England. The stars have received their football training from the former English premier league striker Andy Ansah.

Sanjay Dutt’s, bail has been extended till February 6th in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case. The actor appeared before the TADA court yesterday for the hearing. Sanjay Dutt was found guilty under the Arms Act for keeping unauthorized arms under his custody. Many prominent personalities including some from bollywood presented testimonials in Dutt’s favor in a special court to plea for the bail. Among the supporters were Dilip Kumar, Former Mumbai Sheriff Nana Chudasama, and social workers- Dr. Yusuf merchant and Vipul Khadri.

Isha koppikar together with her co-star Sohail Khan was adamant to do all the stunts of Salaam-e-Ishq themselves. Whether it was falling from the ceilings or being trapped on a burning bed both actors insisted on not using any doubles and perform the stunts personally, informed by unit members. “Representatives of the Bachchan family have already started holding talks in this direction with the concerned erstwhile royal families,” informed sources told IANS.

The Bachchans are considered to be close to the erstwhile royal family of Jaipur and chances are that the bash would be held here and be attended by over 6,000 guests, including Bollywood stars, industrialists and politicians.

Sources in the Jaipur City Palace said the Bachchans have expressed a desire to book the entire palace for a day. Their major concern, however, is the security of the high-profile guests coming to attend the party.

The Bachchans’ representatives are also reportedly in talks with some five-star hotels on the Jaipur-Delhi highway for the accommodation of some guests.

Funny man Arshad Warsi won the best supporting actor award for playing Circuit in “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” and Kirron Kher received best supporting actress female trophy for her powerful performance in “Rang De Basanti”.

Arshad later told a TV channel that he had been pretty unlucky with awards so far but is extremely happy about getting the trophy. He thanked Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan and their company ABCL for giving him his first break as an actor in “Tere Mere Sapne”.

Saif Ali Khan bagged the best actor in negative role award for playing Langda Tyagi in “Omkara” and Shreyas Talpade the best comic actor award for “Dor”.

As the award season gets underway every weekend will be an awards night. Channel surf any time after 8 p.m., and there is a good chance of stumbling upon some Bollywood starlet pirouetting before an audience comprising a smattering of stars – bad props, unbearable anchors and canned applause being common features.

Bollywood award nights are more an exercise in making everyone happy with an ever-widening range of categories for roughly the same number of contenders. Each function features a sickening dose of bonhomie and mutual backslapping and some actors rightfully making their presence felt by their absence. Every year a new award is instituted and this season is no different.

As has been the tradition, most Bollywood film awards throw up roughly the same set of toppers. You cannot blame them. Even in a good year as 2006, the number of flops far exceeded the number of hits. Say, for example, if there were 10 praise-worthy films in 2006, then 50 award functions will felicitate the same 10 films.

The stage is set for the third innings of STAR Plus’s KBC, which is to go on air Jan 22. Shah Rukh is all set to win the audiences over if the warm ad campaign is any indication.

“Shah Rukh is a general knowledge freak and I am a general knowledge fan too. I am eagerly waiting for the show to go on air. Comparisons are unfounded because Shah Rukh has his own style and he will do it in his own way,” Nikhil Advani, who directed the star in “Kal Ho Naa Ho”, told IANS.

Shah Rukh’s determination to win had him put up mock sets of the KBC show at his home – Mannat – so that he could practise. He reportedly rehearses five hours daily with friends like Karan Johar, Farah Khan and Ganesh Hegde.

According to a study by Hansa Research for Optimum Media Solutions, Amitabh is more popular as an anchor among all age groups and genders.

The research showed that 71 percent of those who participated in the poll are willing to give the programme an initial try while eight percent will not watch it at all and 21 percent will watch all episodes.

“Mani Ratnam always inspires you not only by his work but also the kind of work he takes out of you. I was not confident when he offered me Lallan Singh’s role in ‘Yuva’ but I will always respect Mani for having confidence in me – which I didn’t have in myself at that time,” Abhishek said at a press conference here Sunday.

Asked which film he rated as his best, Abhishek said none of them could fit the bill.

“I hope Guru does that. It was challenging to play the journey of a man which starts at age 15 and goes on till 70,” he remarked.

Ratnam, who was also present at the conference, said essaying the role of ‘Guru’ was a big responsibility.

Quizzed about Abhishek’s growth as an actor, Ratnam replied: “You don’t make an actor. An actor is there … you just have to give him the opportunity and chance to show his skill. He always has the capability. ‘Guru’ is a huge role and it is a huge responsibility as well and Abhishek is okay in the film.”

Mumbai, (IANS) Laying to rest rumours of Ranvir Shorey’s rift with Konkona Sen Sharma, the two will be seen together in cinematographer Anil Mehta’s directorial debut, designed as the former Bollywood queen Madhuri Dixit’s comeback film.

Ranvir and Konkona, who were in Rajat Kapoor’s “Mixed Doubles”, will be seen as a part of Madhuri’s theatre group while Anupam Kher has been penciled in to play Madhuri’s mentor. Apparently, Kunal Kapoor has also been approached to play a role.

“Madhuri has a dream role,” a member of the film’s crew told IANS. “It’s her story all the way. All the other actors are important but supportive. Madhuri plays a theatre actress. It’s her character’s 10-year-old journey that forms the film’s crux.”

Although Madhuri had played a member of a dance troupe in Yash Raj Films’ super hit “Dil To Paagal Hai”, she has never played a role of a theatre actress before. In fact, Anil Mehta’s film would be the first since Gulzar’s unreleased “Libaas” to be set in the theatre world.

Mumbai, Jan 15 (IANS) Dad Amitabh Bachchan is on cloud nine after son Abhishek announced he was marrying Aishwarya Rai – a decision that was hanging fire for more than a year.

Asked when the marriage would take place, Amitabh said: “Not right way. But yes, very shortly. Like every father I’m over the moon, specially at this juncture when Abhishek has delivered such a sledgehammer performance in ‘Guru’.”

The wedding is expected to take place in February.

“Amitabh Bachchan is so happy with this alliance that he himself called up a journalist and said, ‘Congratulations, Abhishek proposed to Aishwarya and she has accepted’,” a source close to the family told IANS.

The engagement Sunday evening of Bollywood’s hottest couple puts at rest all speculation on whether the marriage will happen or not. Close friends feel that their love has withstood the long, rigorous test of time.

Apparently, some of family members were initially against the match but finally they also came around.

“Everybody – be it fans, media or family members – were against their marriage because of Aishwarya’s flings in the past and the myth that she brings bad omen for her boyfriends. They warned Abhishek ‘if you marry her your career will be ruined’ and insisted that she is very unlucky.

“They tried to dissuade him by talking about their age difference (Abhishek is about to turn 31 and Aishwarya is 33) and that she is a manglik (born under a particular astrological configuration that the superstitious believe is not auspicious for the husband). But Abhishek didn’t listen to anybody and withstood all the opposition,” added the source.

At last, all the predictions have come true and Abhishek Bachchan formally got engaged to beautiful Aishwarya in her house  on 14th. To grace the occasion, Anil Ambani with his with Tina Ambani and Amar Singh were also present.

The rumours started getting airs when Amitabh had gone with his family and Ash to Baba Vishwanath at Varanasi on 26 December. And as they returned they were engaged on the holy day of “Makar Sankranti”.

At the hush-hish screening of Maniratnam’s Guru, only the cooing lead couple, Abhishek-Aishwarya and a few chosen ones like Vidya Balan ( solo, she was told, not even parents allowed) were invited. Mithun Chakraborty, who has a significant role in the movie, was not invited to see the film.

It’s not everday that you can pull a fast one on one of the world’s most beautiful women. Abhishek Bachchan has akk the luck. The actor recently played a prank that had Aishwarya Rai blushing. Apparently he went around telling people, including co-star Mithun Chakraborty, that ash was fabulous singer. So when Mithunda saw ash perform, he began praising her talent before the unit, saying, “If I tell you that ash is a beautiful girl, a good dancer etc, you will say ‘big deal’ but did you know that she is a very good singer as well? Abhishek told me so.” Ash who was present, was already blushing at the praise from the veteran actor, she was shocked on hearing the last statement. That was when she realised that Abhu was behind mischief.

Ayesha Takia is going to play her first double role in the movie ‘No Smoking’. In one role, she plays John Abraham’s wife and in the other one, she plays the role of a secretary. Before Ayesha, the role had been offered to Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Vidya Balan. Ayesha is very excited about the role and feels that this role will prove her acting skills. About the director Anurag Kashyap, she says, ‘He is a very talented director. I am lucky that I have got a chance to work with him’.

Mohit Alawat has been replaced from Ramu’s Sholay and Nisha Kothari will definitely miss playing Mohit’s Bhabhi. Mohit was earlier finalized for Jay’s role. Nisha says, “I had started my career with Mohit in ‘James’. We have done two films together- James and Shiva. And most importantly I had done my first film with Mohit. So it is but natural I will miss him in the movie. But this is life. You cannot have something permanently”.

Mohit is not the first star to be replaced. Ramu’s Sholay has been constantly shuffling stars. However, one star is permanent and fixed in the movie and it is Nisha Kothari, who is playing Hema Malini’s role. On Tuesday, early in the morning, Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan walked bare-footed for about 15 kilometers to Siddhi Vinayak’s temple in Mumbai. Following them was a huge fan crowd. Jaya Bachchan joined them at the temple and the family together offered their prayers. Before the start of the new year, the Bachchans had also offered their prayers at Sankatmochan temple of Benaras.

Now what did they ask God? Was it for the entry of a new member in the Bachchan family in 2007?

The by-now-infamous cold war between Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan continues into the new year. In fact, this war rang in the New Year, in a manner of speaking. For the entire film industry showed up to celebrate the advent of 2007 at Shah Rukh’s party at Mannat, his home in bandra……except Amitabh. Jaya and Abhishek bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. They were only four conspicuous by their absence at a party that was attended by everyone else in Bollywood, from Vivek Oberoi to Salman Khan. Rani mukherji, Preity Zinta, you name them and they were there. According to those who attended the mega party, SRK and wife Gauri pulled out all the stops in terms of hospitality, this time. Every guest, including the Bachchans and ash, was personally invited by SRK and gauri and sometimes by both. After playing villain for a decade, Bollywood’s favourite veteran actor Gulshan Grover is gearing up to play of bollywood’s most beautiful actresses, Aishwarya Rai in Provoked. But not physically – only through his voice. “It all started when i saw the film in London. I was highly moved by Aishwarya’s powerhosue in the film. After the movie I told my friend Jag Mundra that I should have played the Punjabi husband, who loves his wife but illtreates her because of jealousy,” says grover. And now when the movie is being Readied for release, Ash and Jag has found a novel way to accomodate GG. THey have asked him to lend his voice for the husband’s character. GG, who has never dubbed for any actor but himself, is dubbing for the husband’s character which was played by Naveen Andrews. “This is my way of saluting the fantastic performance by Ash. While i am dubbing and watching each scene many times I can not help but notice the detailed work done by Ash and my friend Jag Mundra,” he says!

Fardeen Khan and Esha deol are known to be best friends, but their friendship goes beyond the sets and they are known to be very comfortable with each other. And so when Meghna Gulzar approached them for Just Married they both jumped at a chance to work together. Fardeen khan says, “When Meghna approached us both we said yes instantly. This is our third film together wherein we have been paired opposite each other. I have always enjoyed working with Esha deol. She is extremely talented and a very spontaneous person. We are also good friends, which really helps, so it is fun working with someone whom you know and with whom you are comfortable,” says Fardeen.

Katrina Kaif went back to her roots. Only for a short span of time, while shooting for Namaste London, in the city of london, of course. For the rest of the unit members this was just another foreign location, but for the londoner, Katrina kaif, it felt like going back home. Actors Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol made a fabolous on-screen pair, but will Tanishaa be able to create the same magic that sis kajol did when paired opposite King Khan? When asked about it, Tich (as she is fondly called) says, “I don’t know all that. But I would love to work with Shah Rukh Khan. 1. Aishwarya Rai-Abhishek Bachchan: From horoscopes that didn’t match to marriage dates, this was undoubtedly the most talked-about couple of the year. From “Dhai Akshar Prem Ke” to “Umrao Jaan”, Abhishek and Aishwarya didn’t jell as a pair on screen. But off screen there was enough sizzle and seduction in the very idea of the couple making it to the ‘mandap’ to keep heads turning and news-copy churning. At yearend, when the couple made an appearance together at Varanasi with the rest of the Bachchans, the shutterbugs went berserk. This is called star power.

2. Jaya-Amitabh Bachchan: At the beginning of the year she was the pillar of strength when Amitabh, Bollywood’s living legend, spent agonising hours in the hospital. Jaya’s face never gave away the turmoil she felt within. Only close friends know how much she suffered as she played the perfect hostess at the Lilavati. Whether it was trying times at the beginning of the year, or the ‘pujas’ performed at Varanasi during yearend, or looking after her ailing mother-in-law in a hospital, Jaya was the archetypal pillar of strength.

1. Nigaar Khan will be partying with friends on New Year eve. Nigaar, who is Barnali in “Kasamh Se” serial, says: “My resolution is to use my money intelligently and get rid of some of my bad habits.”

2. Amit Verma, Rishabh Lamba in “Viraasat”, is attending a private party with close friends. “I plan to involve myself in other activities like kick boxing, and salsa next year,” he says.

3. Kanchi Kaul will spend the evening with close friends. “I don’t make New Year resolutions but I hope this year will bring more work, happiness and leisure,” says the Ananya of “Ek Ladki Anjaani Si”.

4. Tarun Khanna has plans to drive down to Lonavala or party with friends. “My resolution is to stay healthy and maintain a good healthy diet throughout the year,” says Tarun, who is Sameer in “Kabhi Aaye Na Judaai”.

Vidya Balan has left Rituparna Ghosh’s ‘Rahgeer’ and Aishwarya Raihas taken her place. Why Vidya left the film, for this she says, “Aishwarya is better suited for this role”. Rituparna is very annoyed with Balan for her last moment withdrawl. UTV’s Pritish Nandy says that he does not have much information regarding Vidya leaving the film”. In the movie, Akshay Kumar is in the lead role. The movie is said to be based on the yesteryear movie Guide starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have given music for Rahgeer.

While Amisha patel is vacationing with boyfriend, Vikram Bhatt, there is a lot happening back here on her professional front. It’s heard that the gal will soon be seen romancing pwoerhouse performer Ajay Devgan Onscreen. Given her petite self, and Ajay’s fiery presence, this is going to be quite a combo. The last time we spoke to her she said, “I am bing very choosy about my scripts. I would rather wait for the right offer than settle for less.” Well, we think it’s been worth the wait, What say, girl?

Gautam Mennon has signed Saif Ali Khan for this next film. Saif had agreed to do a small role in Menon’s film ‘Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein’ with Diya Mirza and Madhavan. But this time, Menon is casting Madhavan in a smaller role and is getting Saif to do the meatier action role. After Omkara, Saif is in the mood to take challenges and Menon has just presented him with one. The shooting for the film will start in August 2007.

We had let you know about Mallika’s new year eve’s performance, but other pretty ladies of Bollywood are not behind. Be it Mahima Chaudhary or Neha Dhupia, everyone is being paid a bomb for their new year eve’s performances but surely, Mallika is having the largest bite. Neha will perform at the Country Club India Limited (CCIL), Mumbai, and Mahima at its Bangalore branch. Mallika Sherawat is going to perform at the Marlott hotel in Mumbai.

We all know that a certain khan can go without long hours of sleep during shooting schedules. His co-stars even swear that he just doesn’t go to sleep – yes we are talking about SRK. And now we hear Aishwarya rai is following his ‘insomniac’ footsteps. The actress was recently so engrossed in shooting for Mani Ratnam’s Guru that she shot non-stop for 12 hours at a stretch for six days in a row – even with location changes every alternate day. Is SRK looking over his shoulder for some competition already?

The Big B continues to be the flavour of the season. And when the man himself is not in the film, it is his name which holds up the flame. Amal Neerad- The cinematographer for Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Darna Zaroori Hai’, ‘James’ and ‘Shiva’- is now directing a film called ‘Big B’ in Malyalam for producer Naushad. Mammootty will play the title role, that of a bodyguard who returns to Kerala after a long stay in Mumbai.

Director Shriram Raghavan will start work on Gaurang Doshi’s film, ‘Happy Birthday’, in March. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham and Aishwarya Rai in a role that Preity Zinta turned down. This will be Doshi’s third venture featuring the Big B after ‘Aankhen’ and ‘Deewar’. Another heroine may join the cast to add a bit of glamour to the film. ‘Happy Birthday’ is being made on a bigger scale than his earlier films, and Doshi is expecting money to come in from corporates. We wish the team a very grand and successful ‘Happy Birthday’!!

Sunny Deol was highly applauded for his heavy dialogues against Pakistan in movies like ‘Border’, ‘Gadar’ and ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’. Now, Sunny is changing courts. He is going to play the role of a Pakistani in Producer-director Amtoji Manna’s movie ‘Kafilaa’. Besides Sunny, other lead roles are played by Pakistani actresses Sana Nawaz and Monalisa.

Abhishek Bachchan is sure acquiring a knack for being the bad boy. After his performance in Yuva was appreciated, Abhishek did yet another ‘negative’ role in Dhoom 2, where despite being the cop, he managed to appear as the bad guy as far as the audience is concerned. And now we hear, he is once in a role with negative shades in Mani Ratnam’s Guru.

Abhishek bachchan admits that it was tough playing an ambitious man who can justify breaking laws without any guilt in the film. Now in AB’s baby trying to make a mark as the anti-hero?

Director Milan Lutharia is planning to present Sanjay Dutt in a negative role. Milan has signed Ajay Devgan and Sabjay Dutt for the movie. Milan wanted Saif Ali and Ajay (the same pair which was successful in ‘Kachche Dhaage’), but due to dates problem with Saif, he had to sign Sanjay Dutt. The film is based on a true story of a town in Uttar Pradesh. The story revolves around a brave policeman played by Ajay and a run-away prisoner played by Sanjay Dutt.

Recently, Hrithik Roshan has signed a 35 crore deal with ‘Adlabs’. Sources tell that Hrithik has signed for three movies at one go on an agreement of twelve crores per movie. With this Hrithik becomes the costliest star of Bollywood. Also Hrithik will take the entire money through cheque. The best part is that ‘Adlabs’ has granted him full freedom to choose his co-stars, director and other unit members. So, Hrithik’s really soaring high.

Khabris have heard about red, hot fight between Preity Zinta and Bobby Deol on the sets of Shaad Ali’s ‘Jhoom Bara Bar Jhoom‘ in London. It so happened that a song sequence was being shot and Bobby had to maintain curls in his hair for continuity in the song. Chulbuli Preity hid the actor’s curling iron which sent our Punjabi Munda mad with rage. Although Zinta did apologize but Deol refused to shoot further. Dear Bobby, Good Boys are supposed to make up with ‘Preity’ Gals, isn’t it?

The event was Bombay Dying Gladrags Mrs.India 2007 and many of our Bollywood celebrities were there including Anupam Kher and Sanjay Dutt as judges. The fact we noticed was Preity Zinta’s absence on a Maureen Wadia’s event. Maureen is Ness Wadia’s mother and the lad was very much there to support his mother. (Do we need to introduce Ness Wadia here, who has maintained a very long and more or less stable relationship with Preity?). When Maureen was asked about her straining relations with Preity, she answered, “Have you heard anything like that? I haven’t. So all I can say is ‘No Comments!’”. Hmmm…. I think we hit the right chord, Pals.

What was supposed to be a couple of days’ break for Hrithik Roshan turned out to be a slightly longer vacation – all thanks to the perfectionist Ashutosh Gowarikar. Hrithik took a quick break to attend a recent function at Malaysia, and was supposed to rush back to Jodhpur where he is shooting for Akbar Jodha. But gowarikar wanted to add finishing touches to the sets of the film, to bring more authenticity to it. Not that Hrithik is complaining, a little more bonding time with his baby roshan is always welcome. Right Papa Roshan?

Rajni started life as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad and like Johnny Walker worked as a bus conductor before his style and mannerisms attracted the attention of a guy from tinsel town. Rajnikant has over 149 films that include 25 films in Hindi. Although he has aged now, his superstar status remains and any film he touches turns into a surefire hit.

Thirteen Bollywood stars on the ramp! The occasion was the music release of Salaam-e-ishq and the platform was the Salaam-e-ishq’s fashion show. All the stars of the movie rocked the stage with their style including John Abraham, Salman Khan, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ayesha Takia, Juhi Chawla, Isha Koppikar and Vidya Balan. David Dhawan and Bipasha Basu voted Govinda to be their favourite. Director David said, “I obviously have a soft corner for Govinda. He will always be my best.” Bipasha said, “It is the first time I’ll see Govinda on the ramp. I am looking forward to it.”

Shah Rukh Khan might be all over the place interacting with the media and addressing press conferences. But the man is in real pain. And no, it’s not the hovering media that’s causing him pain. While he was shooting for Chak De which required a lot of physical activity, he suffered a pulled hamstring. It will take sometimes for the muscle to heal, so SRK has been poping pain killers so that he can complete his promotional activities for the upcoming quiz show he will be hosting. That’s called “pulling strings to make things work’. We love king khan for that, don’t we?

Sanjay Dutt’s nephew, Nilesh Sahaya is all set to make his debut in Bollywood. He has been signed for a film called Ek Duje Ke Liye to be produced by Deepak Shivdasani of Julie fame. Nilesh is the son of small time yesteryear actress Zaheeda who is Sanjay Dutt’s cousin. We remember her as Dev Anand’s heroine in the song ‘Churi nahin hai mera dil hai’, in Gambler. She also starred in Dev Anand’s ‘Prem Pujari’.

The much awaited Baabul’s premiere was held yesterday in Mumbai. Abhishek Bachchan was there for his father and with Abhishek an unfailing Aishwarya Rai made her presence felt. Aishawarya’s presence in the premiere gave more gossip matter to the Filmi Khabris who are predicting Ash as the Bachchan family’s would be daughter-in-law. This was a rare occasion when Ash and Abhishek were there with her ex-boyfriend Salman Khan.

On this occasion, Rani Mukherjee said that she was waiting eagerly for Friday as it was the first-day first-show which really decided the success of a film. Mandira Bedi said she would like to see a family drama which would be emotional and a tear-jerker.

He didn’t have much trouble fitting into the Big B’s shoes in ‘Don’, the question is how well will he carry himself as the host of the super-duper game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.

Sameer Nair (CEO STAR Entertainment India) said that KBC was the most important show of STAR because it had boosted its ratings and catapulted it to No. 3 from No. 7.
Nair said he was confident that Shah Rukh Khan would take the show on the road to success. “When Amitabh Bachchan declined the offer we thought Shah Rukh is the only person to carry it further. We are thankful to him for accepting the challenge.”
“We have signed a fresh contract and now KBC will be on air till 2012, but it is going to be a seasonal thing. We will have 52 to 60 episodes per calendar year,” said Nair.
Asked whether he would be able to match Bachchan in style and poise, rather “fit into his shoes,” Khan said: “They are too big for me. I am too small for them.” But he was quick to add that it was the show’s concept that made it so popular in as many as 106 countries.
King Khan said he will bring in his personality to the show but “maintain the beauty of Amitabh.” “With all humility, I will do it my way. Please allow me a chance to be me and respect me for that.” The show will be telecast four days a week – Monday to Thursday.

The second Provogue Global Indian Film Awards (G.I.F.A) are being held at none other than the lush locales of Malaysia. And just as expected the event is being action packed by performances of bollywood biggies including Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. Arshad Warsi and Amrita Arora are hosting the awards and the panel of jury members includes Rati Agnihotri, jackie shroff, Shyam Benegal, Sajid Nadiadwala, Smita Thackeray, Sandeep Chowta and the noted film critic Subhash K Jha.

The venue of the award function is in itself a special treat and for everyone who can make it to the event, they are definitely going to have an enthralling experience presented by performances from Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Amisha Patel. And as if all this is not enough there is an added attraction for a celebrity football match, fashion show, charity dinner and auction during the occasion. The full-uncut version of Dhoom 2 has created some uproar outside India. The gossip zone claims rocking sexy scenes involving Ash and Hrithik can be downloaded from the Internet. To add spice to the already hot news, a case has been filed against Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai and actor Hrithik Roshan.The case was filed in the court of judicial magistrate first class R K Batham by advocate Shailendra Dwivedi under sections 292 (vulgarity) and 509 (derogatory to women) of the IPC. The complainant has alleged that women felt offended after watching the scene and it promoted vulgarity in society, especially among the youth. The court has fixed December 11 for recording evidence in the case.

John Abraham has had enough of his Baabul co-star’s seemingly inexlicable bouts of snide behaviour in public where Salman Khan has made it amply clear that there’s no love lost between the two actors, despite John trying to extend the olive branch by saying good things about Sallu.

John abraham, in his turn, now makes it clear that this issue has become too petty, and Sallu’s comments too insignificant, for him to give too much importance to. His nonchalance come through when he says, “I am just not bothered.. All I can do is brush it all off with a smile. In fact, the comments and this entire issue have no relevance in my life. I really don’t have time for all this. And i am not being arrogant. I am just being practical.”
SO what about rumours of a squabble between them during Baabul and Rockstars tour? He says, “Well, I had no issues with him any time during the concerts. I didn’t know what was happened until I returned to Mumbai and read reports in the papers about our hostility. And we hardly shot together for the film.”
John abraham adds, “As far as I am concerned I am very comfortable with everyone around me. I don’t like to work under any kind of stress and avoid it as much as possible. I am comfortable in my space, and thats what matters to me.”

It takes one talented actor to admire another talented man. Abhishek Bachchan is total floored by the cinematographer of his own film Guru. The man in question, Rajiv Menon is so meticulous about his job that he doesn’t hesitate to make last minute changes in the lighting on the sets of this Manu Ratnam film. Abhishek was really impressed when rajiv agreed to change the lighting to make sure that everything goes right.

Sooraj Barjatya can now consider Emraam Hashmi for his next film. The reason? The actor has now got the requisite experience to act in one of his films. Emraan Hashmi is getting set for his own shaadi and is being roped into all the necessary activities by his friends and family. Of course, we don’t know if he is pulling his air out as yet. But he is definitely getting all the hands on experience of a marriage function and its preliminaries. Now will sooraj barjatya please oblige?

Vipul shah is constantly being chased by two of his favourite people – Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. Both of them want to be the first ones to see the first copy of Namastey London. Both of them are so very excited about the film and they can’t wait to see the film. However, Vipul is not yet ready to show anyone in the film. He says, “I am still editing and am busy completing Namastey London’s background score. I know the entire unit is very excited and keeps messaging me enquiring when they can see the film. I have told them to be patient as sabar ka phal mitha hota hai.”

The Sajid Khan directed Hey Baby is raising a lot of curiosity among fans, and so here’s little inside information we managed to get. Apparently, producer Sajid Nadiadwala is going to rope in a big star for a special appearnce in the film and it could be anyone from Hrithik Roshan or Salman Khan or one of the other khans. Nadiadwala, however, is not revealing who the man will be. “Just wait and watch. I am not revealing much at this point of time,” is his take on the issue. Well, we will do just that!

A lot of different kinds of films have seen success at the Box Office this year and they have has their share of side effects too. The Rahul bose and Mallika Sherawat starrer, Pyar Ke Side Effects has been invited for a screening at the Singapore Film Festival, and producer Pritish Nandy is thrilled about it. “I would love Rahul and Mallika to accompany me to the festival because I truly Believe it is this new language in Indian cinema we have used in Pyar ke side effects that has worked for the film. And of course, the chemistry of the lead pair had a lot to do with the success of the movie too,” Says Nandy.

The film’s mobile game has been released in Mumbai, which is mainly about Rani Mukherjee garlanding John Abraham or Salman Khan. The game is free for the Internet users of the Hungama games and has been launched by Mauj (a mobile portal) at around Rs 50 if played on the mobile.

In his latest venture Amitabh Bachchan has been spotted walking the ramp with Co-star Hema Malini. The event was organized to launch the music release of the film. Music release of the film has always been a critical happening to ensure success of the film. There is a cutting edge competition and even Big B does not want to leave any stone unturned for his current release. So a unique novel act was planned to promote Baabul. A fashion show with the designers of the film had been devised which did not necessarily included the clothes wore in Baabul but there were also other outfits designed by the film’s designers.

Finally, she will walk out of the closet, We mean Arjun Rampal’s new find Vipasha, who is being launched with his first production venture, I See You. Back home papa Rakesh Roshan has been swelling with pride for his son’s amazing feat. “Of course, I am thrilled and very proud of Hrithik. Any father would be proud of a son like him. He takes his work and himself so seriously, he focuses on every aspect so closely – from his looks, clothes to his performance,” says the gushing Rakesh Roshan. Kode pronounced Bollywood’s aging macho star Sanjay Dutt guilty of possessing arms, the 47-year-old celebrity stoically maintained in a television interview that he would accept the court’s verdict and was mentally prepared for the worst.

“I will start crying,” he maintained if he was acquitted but will “face it” if the verdict went the other way around. “I have to”, Dutt said.

With Terrorism and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court judge Kode delivering a mixed verdict Tuesday – finding him guilty of illegal possession of arms, but absolving him of the charges of the larger conspiracy in the 1993 Mumbai terror bombings that killed 257 people – Dutt must surely be a relieved person.

“After due reasoning during the trial, I did not find him to be a terrorist,” special judge P.D. Kode said.

This is the best Dutt could have bargained for, considering that a conviction under TADA would have virtually snuffed out his film career, sending him back to the cooler in Arthur Jail where he spent 18 long months in 1993-94.

In fact, it is a verdict that should gladden the hearts of the inhabitants of Imperial Heights – the Dutt residence at Pali Hill – who have been on tenterhooks ever since Kode started giving his verdicts in one of the most widely anticipated trials in the country’s history in September.

His ebullient co-star in the blockbuster “Lage Raho Munnabhai”, Arshad Warsi, succinctly summed the verdict.

Did you watch Dhoom and what did you think about the film?

Of course I have watched Dhoom and the success of Dhoom creates a very good platform that obviously motivates a sequel, but what really propelled me into doing the film, was the inherent script of Dhoom 2 itself. So that really was my calling card. It was exactly what I was looking for at that time and space. Because I was actually quite bored and stuck at that one end of the spectrum where I was doing this blatant good boy, good son, good brother, good lover kind of role. Though of course they are also quite enjoyable but it was time to take the big leap towards the other end of the spectrum. And what was waiting for me there was Mr A … Aryan, so I am really glad that I got the opportunity..

While production studios are turning into conglomerates that can make, distribute, market and even exhibit films, the ever-increasing investment required for a movie venture and the paucity of saleable stars are squashing starry dreams of many.

This week by releasing “Dhoom II” on their terms and conditions, the famed and illustrious Yash Raj Films (YRF) movie studio has once again shown that it is all-powerful.

News reports say that YRF demanded a 50 percent share in the first week as against 48 percent, which is the norm. Many distributors who did not give in are left licking their wounds given the staggering box office opening that the film starring Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan has garnered.

YRF had made similar demands for their previous release “Faana” as well. News reports quoted trade analyst Amod Mehra as saying: “It is unethical for any distributor to make outrageous demands. This matter should be dealt with collectively at the association level. Individual demands should not be entertained.”

Bollywood’s latest crowned DON. SRK is right now shooting and camping in Australia. “Shahrukh khan is in australia shooting for Yash Chopra’s Chak de which is being directed by Shimit Amin. The film is based on sports and that’s why the main part has been shot in Melbourne and Sydney,” says a unit member. The film marks the return of King Khan to the chopra camp after alleged differences which kept them away from each other. Must say for the Chopra and SRK, all’s well that ends well.

Guess who’s moved upto the Rs One Crore price bracket in the film industry? None other than Riteish Deshmukh who will soon be laughing all the way to the bank if he accepts producer Vashu Bhagnani’s offer to act in his new film. Vashu apparently has offered him one crore to act in the film. This is a straight jump from the earlier 55-lakh rupee bracket that Riteish was in. “Yes, producers are definitely intrested in singing Riteish for a much higher price. Amitabh Bachchan’s penchant for music is not new, but after singing the theme song Baabul, Bachchan will be again singing for Ram Gopal Varma’s Nishabd. Musician-turned-filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj jas been brought into the project especially to compose a song for the Big B.

Says Ramu, “Vishal and I worked really well on the tracks of Satya. Till date, songs like Sapne mein milti hai, and Geela geela pani are remembered. Unfortunately I never got a chance to work with him again. But now in Nishabd I felt Vishal was the best person to bring in a mood-driven theme song. And who better qualified to sing it than Amitji?”

Akshay Kumar has all the luck in the world. The actor will be soon seen grooving with 20 bollywood actresses in his forthcoming film, ‘Hey Baby’. The credit for it goes to debutante director Sajid Khan who has managed to rope in 20 leading ladies for a special appearance in the his film. Currently, the entire unit of the film is busy shooting for the song and dance sequence. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala conforms the news, saying, “Yes, we have managed to get an unbelievable number of actresses to play a camoe in a song sequence, bit I would not be able divulge any further details about the song.”

Delhi Times sources confirmed the names saying that Ameesha Patel, Esha del, Lara Dutta, Sameera Reddy, Juhi Chawla, Bipasha Basu, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora, Preity Zinta, Mallika Sherawat will be in the song with Akshay Kumar.

This screen jodi is much in demand. There’s a wild goose chase for them too. Last week, when Amrita-Shaahid-Sooraj Barjatya were on a whirlwind tour to promote their new film, the trio was in for a big surprise. On their way back from a theatre in Faridadbad to airport, there was a gang if about ten bikers who were chasing their car. Apparently, the fast riders were trying to cut across and catch up with their car in every possible way. Finally they succeeded; they raced their bikes, zoomed ahead and ended with a screeching halt in front of their cars, “All they wanted was a very few seconds with us and our autographs. We were petrified seeing them speed like that, it was quite dangerous. But the jind of response we have got from the junta is overwhelming. Sooraj ji is surprised too because according to him when Hum Aapke Hai Kaun released he got similar mixed reviews in the first few weeks, then it went went on to become a record-breaking success,” says Amrita Rao.

She’s got the right attitude herself, so the actress Neha Dhupia should know what she’s talking about. The actress, who recently worked with newest Deol on the block, Abhay, is apparently quite impressed and convinced working with the ypung Deol. When we asked Neha how it was working with the youngest Deol, she replied, “It was excellent working with Abhay Deol. I don’t know the definition of a typical Deol, but I looked at him as a relative newcomer and I almost fit into the same category. It was fun working with the whole init that was very young, fresh and talented. I feel Abhay too is a very talented actor and he comes to the sets with some great attitude.” Now that’s quite a big compliment for Abhay.

Tell us something about your character.

My character’s name is Kishan. He is a con artist from Goa. It’s about how he becomes seventy year old Nepali man to sort out his friend’s love life. He plays a role of classical dancer then he becomes a girl. It’s also about Anupam Kher who falls in love with this girl. ASMM is an extremely funny film and I had fun doing these four different roles.

Actor Chunky Pandey said that he fell in love with you, when he saw you in a girl’s get up. Tell us about something about that.

Costume drama Jodha Akbar is ready to roll as Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan have packed their bags and are set to fly to Jodhpur. It seems that Aishwarys rai and costume dramas are maent for each other as she has been a part of many such films right from Chokher Bali and Devdas to Umrao Jaan, and Guru which is also a period film set in the 1950’s. I have often been told I belong to another era. And my selection of films reflects that old-world reality,” she said, as she packs to leave for a large part of November. Meanwhile Hrithink Roshan, says, “For me the challenge of doing my first costume drama is to look convincing in the old-world costumes. I am really looking forword to my first period film.”

While the casting of Ram Gopal Varma’s Sholay continues to generate curiosity and intrest, the latest actor to have been finalised is Abhishek Bachchan. He will re-create the magic originallycreated by Jalal Agha in Mehbooba O Mehbooba. With this dance Abhishek will shale a leg for the first time with actress Urmila Matondkar. He will share screen space for a popular number for the third consecutive time with his father Amitabh Bachchan. The other hits being ‘Kajra Re’ in Bunty Aur Babli and Rock and Roll Soniye for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.

Ram gopal varma confirmed the news. “It is true that Abhishek will be doing the song and will feature along with Amitji and Urmilla. The other details are yet to be finalised. We yet have to think about his look in the film,” he said.

What Shah Rukh Khan has been trying fo many years, Saif Ali Khan finally did, We are talking about quiting smoking. Though SRK has been trying hard to quit smoking, so far he hasn’t been successful, but a source close to Saif Ali Khan says, “Saif is a very good and caring father, and ever since photographs of him and Amrita were published amoking during a school function of their children, he has concerned about how his children would react and ge decided to give up smoking,” says a friend of the star.

Filmmaker Priyadarshan is in Mumbai to promote his next film Bhagam Bhaag which releases in December. When DT caught up with him, the man who has directed Akshay Kumar ever so often, too is impressed with his progress as an actor. Priyan tells DT, “He has improved a hell of a lot. I remember when we worked together for the first time, Akshay used to take as many as 16 takes for a shot, but now, he knows exactly what the director wants and his timing and co-ordination are just so perfect.”

Apparently, Raj Kumar Santoshi wanted to cast the actor in his magnum opus Ramayan. According to informed sources, “Salman was Santoshi’s first choice for the part of Lord Rama. Salman on his part, has always expressed a desire to play Lord Rama in the movie adaptation.”

“Unfortunately at this stage of his career when things could go either way for Salman’s cour proceedings, playing Rama would have been suicidal to Santoshi’s project. He opted for a safer bet, Ajay Degan,” says a source.

In one of the countless visuals of stunning resonance, Aishwarya, playing the doomed and poetic tawaif (courtesan) Umrao Jaan Adaa, travels through a burning field of crops. “The crops have been reaped, now the fields are being burnt for good luck next year,” explains a co -passenger.

That one gloriously revealing moment captures the sublime pathos that coloured the life and times of 19th century Lucknow’s famed courtesan, who in her words is a “badnasibi ki misaal” (the classic example of misfortune).

We’ve seen Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh in several Hindi films ranging from Muzaffar Ali’s “Umrao Jaan” to Chandan Arora’s “Main Meri Patni Aur Woh”. But the city and its surrounding topography have never looked more vivid.

Many are the hazzards of acting and John Abraham is just realising that. Apparently, the actor who is working in a film titled NO SMOKING, had to smoke so many cigarettes on the sets that he is afraid he might actually get addicted now. For, contrary to the tittle, in the film John abraham plays a character of a chainsmoker. Should we call in Bipasha basu to do some fire fighting here?

One is an acclaimed comic actor, while other is an action-turned-comic actor and both of them are coming together for t he first time in Priyadarshan’s Bhagam Bhag. We are talking about sctors Akshay Kumar and Govinda. Besides their excellent comic timing, we hear they fight over a mysterious woman in the movie. When we dug deeper, we learnt the truth. ” I am their mustery woman, Munni, and all the guys in the film keep running after me. That’s why the film is titled Bhagam Bhag,” Says Lara Dutta. Now, whether they finally catch her is anyone’s guess.

Never had a convocation at Delhi university attracted such attention before. And why not? For this time, it was going to confer an honorary doctrate on one of its brightest stars – Amitabh bachchan. There were others too, but it was bachchan Junior’s surprise appearance (Hair band and all) that had the crowd hysterical.

The convocation ceremony at the Delhi University has been the talk of the town(Delhi) for some time now..what with the sexy-at 60 star beingf one of those to be conferred an honorary degree. The sheer charisma of the star eclipsed the other luminaries also being honoured on the occasion, like it or not. And with son Abhishek Bachchan putting in a late but style appearance crowned by a fashion statement of great recall value – his much talked hairband – the event finally turned into a team Bachchan gala.The crowds that thronged the convention hall were not complaining. After all, it is not everyday that Jaya and Abhishek Bachchan are seeing exchanging jokes as Big B gets to be Dr Big B. Organisers are making a beeline for the actor so that they can organise shows around him and his growing repertoire of hits, be it with any music director right from Anu Malik to Pritam to Himesh Reshmmiya. With all the moolah and the adulation, which is a regular part of such shows, we think Emraan is going to find it very difficult to resist.

The trial in the hit-and-run case involving Salman Khan is all set to resume in a Mumbai court from November 8 on a regular basis after the concerned magistrate expressed concern over the delay in the examination of witnesses by the prosecution.

Awaiting the verdict in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt says that he can’t concentrate on his work as he was “nervous” but would accept the judgment with a “bowed head” and was prepared for the worst.

Amitabh Bachchan, once voted the entertainer of the millennium, says he is still petrified every time he goes on stage, a tabloid newspaper reported on Monday.
